Product Owner

Job Purpose

Our Product team is growing and is looking to add a Product owner. This role is responsible for championing the product vision and evangelizing the Agile (Scrum) methodologies. It includes writing user stories and acceptance criteria that align with the product features, ensuring work is ready and in the right order for developers, facilitating scrum ceremonies, and ensuring continuous improvement based on feedback, quality controls and constant iteration. The Product Owner establishes and prioritizes a backlog, identifies the resources needed to execute on the vision, creates compelling business cases, and thinks about the bigger picture. Additionally, this role builds strong, trusted relationships with internal customers and stakeholders and provides quantifiable business value to the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Product Owner has a wide variety of roles and responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Facilitate Agile (Scrum) ceremonies such as daily scrums (stand-up), refinement (backlog review), planning and kaizen (retrospective)

  • Ensure user stories are created, tracked and coordinated for Epics requiring support from the front-end and back-end development teams

  • Create, maintain, and clearly describe the product backlog items (PBIs) through clear user stories, acceptance criteria and definitions of done

  • Partner closely with the development team to provide support with questions and needs, working with other business stakeholders to resolve conflicts as necessary

  • Coordinate with UI/UX designers if design elements are required for product development

  • Develop and share in-depth knowledge of products and related processes with internal and external stakeholders

  • Establish and maintain a deep knowledge of the industry and market (e.g. customers, partners, competitors, etc.)

  • Create and distribute detailed release notes, technical document, frequently asked questions (FAQ), and other relevant product documentation

  • Measure everything. Define what success means for each feature and function early in the development process


In order to be considered for this position, candidates should possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or experience as a product owner, product manager or scrum master in an Agile development environment

  • Track record of delivering software products in an Agile (Scrum) approach, particularly with software as a service (SaaS) organizations

  • Experience eliciting requirements from internal and external users and documenting them in user stories

  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to make decisions based on both quantitative data and qualitative insight

  • Exceptional communication skills, formal and technical writing, verbal and email

  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation

  • Technical proficiency required to participate in sprint planning and have an informed, independent voice

Preferred Skills

Bonus points for any of the following:

  • Experience working with UI/UX designers to conduct user research and usability testing to optimize product experience; have an eye for a simple and compelling user interface

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification or similar

  • Experience with supply chain management or financial technology
