Product Design Intern

Department: Engineering
Location: Orlando, FL

Job Purpose

Our Design team is growing and is looking to add a Product Design Intern. This role will partner with product managers, software developers, and UI/UX designers to contribute to the design of human-centered products that meet market needs. The Product Design Intern will learn our product development process from early concept to market launch and will be expected to utilize a full range of product design, interaction design, and visual design skills on a daily basis. In addition, this role will also partner with Marketing to help facilitate collateral, social graphics, sales documents, email templates, and other materials.

The Product Design Intern will enjoy ownership of the features worked on while contributing to the design ecosystem at scale with mentorship from highly experienced industry professionals. We are looking for someone who obsesses over the details and is ready to create both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional designs.


Roles and Responsibilities

The Product Design Intern has a wide variety of roles and responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something useful and valuable for our internal and external customers

  • Produce low-fidelity sketches and prototypes with input from UI/UX and Product Management team members

  • Transform design concepts to high-fidelity mockups for team reviews and cross-functional presentations

  • Design flows and experiences that are incredibly simple and elegant

  • Utilize and contribute to our design system with design peers

  • Learn and apply critical storytelling and presentation skills

  • Assist in the creation of marketing assets while adhering to brand standards

  • Give and solicit feedback from other designers in order to continually raise our bar

  • Join our feature teams and actively participate in meetings, critiques, and events


Qualifications

In order to be considered for this position, candidates should possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Link to an online portfolio featuring examples of visual and interaction design work

  • Ability to think at a high level about product strategy and vision (what we build, not just how it looks)

  • Human-centered design process that produces thoughtful and engaging product design

  • Willingness to hone your design skills through qualitative and quantitative feedback

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to soundly discuss design decisions

  • Classroom or on-the-job experience with different design methods and techniques

*Due to the depth of the local talent pool, we are only looking for students local to the Central Florida area


Preferred Skills

Bonus points for any of the following:

  • Understanding of user experience design principles and process

  • Knowledge of design, presentation, and prototyping tools (e.g., Sketch and InVision, Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Experience with coding in front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JS)

  • 2+ years experience in design related college courses, internships or work

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch.
